In 1939, 54% of Germans said they were Protestant and 40% Catholic. They were also the most educated people of Europe. Those were the people who obediantly promoted Hitler's big lie.
Two things: 1) the age contrasts provide a striking backdrop to the conversation. Under 50 and over 50 have very different views. 2) The Notorious 81% is a great band name!
One of the hardest things for me to watch is the folks I'd have called "salt-of-the-earth Americans who love their country and their God" 2 yrs ago now consuming and spreading right wing media content sodden with blatant falsehood and spiced heavily with authoritarian themes. A moving target that's moving the wrong direction. :(
