Kristin, Thanks for those comments about the Dutch carols. Reminds me of a sermon I heard several years ago, in which the pastor spoke about his favorite Christmas carol, O Holy Night. It was his favorite because of the line about the world of sin and darkness...."Til he appeared, and the soul felt its worth." I was thinking that your carols also illustrated what it means for the soul to feel its worth. Best wishes to all of us for a meaningful Christmas. Glen P.

Wonderful, and thanks for sharing especially your family’s recent story during very dark times in the 20th century, lest we forget at this time in human history! Safe travel, stay courageous and strong in the faith …

Thank you Kristin, for a different perspective on Christianity. Being a Dutch immigrant myself and having lived my life in the Reformed tradition, the idea that German people were also Christian, had never been a part of the discussion. And by the way, my father spent 3 1/2 years in a German slave labor camp during the war.

Somehow I missed this one when it first appeared (hmm, what could have possibly been going on that day...). So now you’re doing hymn exegesis. Will you leave nothing for the rest of us? 😎 I also number among the many who are not familiar with this hymn, which feels like a loss.

Thank you for the prescient history lesson for today's America. Nationalism and Christianity mixed! It's just as toxic now as it was then. I appreciate you and your work.

Thank you for writing this Kristin. This is especially true knowing how busy you are right now. We all need to hear your voice . You remind us that we all can do our part to call out the twisted beliefs that are associated with CN. In your calm style, you remind the reader of what happened to the Germans because of CN. The inference,of course, is how easily it can happen again. Thank you again! Merry Christmas!

Such beautiful words to that Dutch carol...love this:

Come and stand amazed, you people,

See how God is reconciled!

See his plans of love accomplished,

See his gift, this newborn child.

Yes...LOVE ACCOMPLISHED~

Thank you for these words, Kristen. I had never heard the hymn before, which is odd, considering its haunting beauty. Safe travels and the merriest of Christmases!

Well done. Reminds me of a running convo I’ve had recently with a friend (&fellow Theo nerd) who has taken a turn opposite from mine lately. Merry Christmas driving the frozen steppes of Iowa.🎄
