Thanks for articulating this so well. John was one of a kind. He made me believe in my own voice. What an impact he made. And what a loss. Appreciate you marking it out loud.
This is such a beautiful tribute to your friend. I feel like I knew him, when I had never heard his name before. He seems like he was an amazing, life-giving person. I'm so sorry for your loss. And also very happy that he pushed you and persisted. My sincere condolences.
What a beautiful way to bring honor to someone so gifted and so giving! Sounds like God undoubtably used him to further his kingdom! Those of us that continue to seek out good writers, we appreciate his encouragement to you, another gifted scholar! Keep thinking deeply and writing clearly! We’re all better because of it!
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Praying comfort for his family, for you, and for all who knew and were blessed by John. May his memory be always for a blessing.
Oh! What a jolt of grief to read that John died. I served with him on the Board of Home Missions (as we were combining into Resonate), and was captivated by his ingenuity and hope—and energy!—for kin-dom work. What a tragic loss for you, his family, and for God’s world. Lord, have mercy.
Beautiful: John Hwang (whom I did not know), your tribute here, and the expansive and gracious tradition out of which this is written and lived. Thank you, Kristin, for this testimony and for your good, brave work to offer justice and grace to the broader world. You, too, inspire so many of us.
I am so sorry for your loss, Kristin, but am so grateful that you had John in your life. And, because of all you have given us, that he was in our lives. We will all meet some day; until then, keep up the work John inspired you to do, knowing we are with you.
Thanks for sharing this lovely tribute. We always need to be reminded we all can (and should) be part in this. If I am remembering correctly I chatted with John for 10 minutes or so at SBL-AAR last year. He was Very welcoming and friendly to this stranger who wasn’t part of the guild.
Oh Kristin, what a beautiful friend and so grateful for his influence in your life. I pray comfort for his family and friends as they grieve and celebrate a life so well lived!
I am grateful for the work you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight. I'm a Calvin grad and appreciate Reformed Journal. Keep putting your ideas out there, Kristin. Your insight into Christian Nationalism is right on and much needed. Thanks, Krstin!
I didn’t know John. But I’m thankful for his influence on you dear sister. I came to your talk at warehouse 6 and brought a friend. She was very glad that I invited her. Wilma rabidoux Hudsonville Michigan

Thank you for this beautiful reflection, Kristin. Grateful for the few encounters with John on the RJ - for his kindness and thoughtful presence.
