You’ve landed on my very first newsletter post! For your promptness, you’ll be rewarded with watching me fumble with this new medium until I get the hang of it. Sit back and enjoy.
Why a newsletter?
I’ve been putting off starting one for a long time, for all sorts of reasons. But as I’ve migrated over to Twitter over the last year or two, I feel bad for neglecting my wonderful Facebook friends. But there’s also the growing discomfort of realizing that both Facebook and Twitter have their own drawbacks and limitations. A newsletter gives me a bit of independence from any one social media platform. It also allows for a more hospitable space for conversation. By making most posts free, I hope to keep this an open space. But by requiring paid subscriptions to comment, I hope to provide a bit of protection for people who want to discuss hard topics in good faith. Twitter can be rather unforgiving. Any $ from this newsletter will go directly to supporting my writing. For the time being, I’ve found a need to cut back from teaching rather drastically in order to keep up with speaking and writing demands, and any funds gathered here will help provide a bit of stability during this season. (If $ is an issue for you and you still want to participate in this community, message me and I’ll see if I can find a way around the paywall. I don’t want the cost to be prohibitive!)
What can you expect to find here?
Who knows? Plenty of my thoughts on current events, on religion and politics, on social media dustups, and on my next book: LIVE LAUGH LOVE.
How often will I post? I imagine at least once a week, but once I get the hang of things, knowing me, probably a lot more often.
Thanks for checking this out, and looking forward to seeing where we go from here…
Kristin
