After a bit of a respite and some quality writing time, I’m about to head out again.
This next week, I have two events: one virtual, and one in-person.
The virtual event hosted by Georgetown University’s Center on Faith+Justice as part of their Women in Leadership Series:
Join us online for our next VIRTUAL public dialogue on March 20th, 2-3:30pm (ET). “Women in Leadership: Christianity, Misogyny, and the Roots of Resilience” will feature women who lead diverse Christian ministries and congregations, as they explore together the patriarchal elements of Christianity, the insights women have earned through persisting and growing in faith despite them, and the ways these insights can help us build resilience in our own faith communities and respond to the distortions of Christian faith infused in today's politics of domination.
The panel includes Dr. Kathleen Bonnette, Pastor Gabby Cudjoe Wilkes, Rev. Teresa Hord Owens, Dr. Diana Butler Bass, Jeanne Lewis, and myself. Details here, and register below:
Both in-person and available virtually, I’ll be responding to a paper by Drew Strait on “The Bible and Human Security: Why Biblical Interpretation Matters for Challenging Christian Nationalism” at Notre Dame’s 2025 Catholic Social Tradition Conference March 20-22.
Then, I’m very excited to be heading South, to North Carolina!
On March 28-29, I’ll be at Raleigh’s First Baptist Church. Friday evening will start off with a 6pm dinner and then I’ll speak at 7pm, and Saturday morning includes breakfast followed by a 10am talk. I’ve met so many wonderful people the past couple of years in NC and I’d love to see folks there.
Then, on April 3, I’ll be giving an evening lecture at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN. It’s at 7pm, Madeleva Hall, Carroll Auditorium, free and open to the public. Also very much looking forward to this one.
And, a couple of bonus events. I won’t be there, but for fans of Beth Allison Barr, there are two events you won’t want to miss. The first, in Waco, takes place Tuesday, March 18, 7pm, at Fabled Bookshop and Cafe. Details and registration here, and also a link to attend virtually.
And…Beth will be in West Michigan on Thursday, March 20, 7pm, at the Calvin University chapel! Information and registration here.
If you haven’t already pre-ordered Beth’s book, you will definitely want to. I’ll have more to say on it soon, but it is one of the most stirring books I’ve read. You can order it here.
And a heads-up for folks in the West Michigan area. I’m working on something fun for April or May. What if, instead of reeling and wondering what we can do, we take this moment to build something new? Still thinking things through, but stay tuned on this… (And if all goes well, we’ll be building this out from here.)
Finally, here’s our latest episode of The Convocation Unscripted:
It is a beautiful spring day here in Michigan, so I’m heading outside for the evening. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and a little sunshine.
Thank you all again for the Convocation Unscripted. It helps me so much to hear learned people like yourselves describe your observations of what is going on to a single (elderly) woman who has not found a church or any group that shares the same views. For example I no longer feel like I'm crazy when i am incensed at the FBIl declaring that Habit for Humanity workers need to be put in jail. God in his mercy took Jimmy Carter home just in time or that sentiment certainly would have killed him. Keep up the good work and I also look for the hope in all of this. I agree with all the things you mentioned as hope.
Kristin, I live in west Michigan too, and whatever you have planned, I am all in!
